In today’s Buffalo News:

Robbers strike twice on city bike path

The bike path near Grant and Tonawanda streets was the site of a gunpoint robbery of a bicyclist and an attempted robbery of a man walking to the supermarket on Tuesday afternoon, police reported today.

The two incidents happened just minutes apart, at the same location, and police believe they were committed by the same two robbers.

At about 3:15 p.m., a man heading to Tops supermarket was walking on the bike path about a quarter-mile from Grant Street, where he was stopped by two men wearing bandanas.

Police said one of the men displayed a 9mm handgun and demanded money, but the victim told them that he had no money.

Within minutes, the same two robbers confronted a bicyclist who had stopped to help, displayed their handgun, and robbed him of his cell phone, $5 and his iPod with headphones, police reported.

The robbers ran west down the bike path. No arrests have been made.

I’ve been biking more than this blog shows, and I really need to get back to blogging regularly. Stuff like this article in the News can’t be the only story I tell.

  • back to commuting - back to being screamed at by ignorant motorists
For the past year, I didn't live far enough from work to bother bicycling (I was walking to work), but I recently started a new job, so yesterday was my first bicycle ride to work and back. It felt great! It was also nice that the snow had melted so that there was room for me on the side of the road. But on my way home, an ignorant motorist shouted out […]

  • I can't wait to try out Google's maps for BICYCLE routes!
I've been waiting for this for a long time. At one point, I started working on a program that would use Google's map tools to create bicycle routes, but the programming was a little over my head. Google Maps Finally Adds Bike Routes (click here for complete article on Wired.com) At long last, Google Maps has routes specifically for bikes. read more […]

  • New Orleans bike taxis could get City Council OK
I'm going to write a note to these people to ask for a copy of the draft legislation mentioned in the article. I hope the legislation passes, because it will help keep bike taxis (AKA pedicabs) on the street in other cities. Who knows, it could even encourage people to PUT bike taxis on their streets. New Orleans pedicabs could get City Council OK By Br […]

  • First Impressions Count
The first impression your business makes on a web site is important. This probably comes as no surprise to you, because it sounds like common sense. But some Canadian researchers have quantified the theory in a study published in January 2006.
